Trump Log #45: Critical Mass

If you repeat something enough, eventually people, who aren't paying that much attention, will accept it as truth. Our president is a master at this. Hillary Clinton is the most investigated person in history and has been found guilty of nothing, yet after he called her "crooked Hillary" a few thousands times, he is able to get an auditorium full of ill-informed morons and malcontents to chant "lock her up." This kind of stuff is scary to watch. You can understand the Third Reich a little bit more after 2016 campaign, how it took power and got some otherwise decent people to do some pretty horrendous things.

This is concerning when you think about how long the Mueller probe is going on. The longer it takes to wrap up, the longer he has to bash it and throw doubt of its validity into the minds of those not paying attention.  I am not too concerned about his followers, they aren't going to be swayed by anything or anyone. I believe the president when he says that he could shoot someone and he wouldn't lose any votes. After what I've seen this year, I believe him.  My concern are those that aren't his fans but that don't pay close attention. How many sound bytes do they have to hear of Trump bashing Mueller before they think that Mueller is the problem and not Trump? Even a really bad idea or a lie can reach critical mass.

Trump Log:
Monday 5/21/18 - Trump demands that his Justice Department investigate whether Obama's justice department or the FBI infiltrated him campaign. This is unprecedented and could cause a big mess in the Justice Department.  (Source: New York Times)

Wednesday 5/23/18 - Trump's EPA director, Pruitt, bars the Associated Press and CNN from a conference on water contamination. (Source: AP News)

Saturday 5/26/18 - Trump cuts funds to women's health organizations in Uganda. His GGR (Global Gag Rule) goes much further than other GOP presidents in the past, because he is cutting all global health assistance "not just funds pegged specifically to reproductive health and family planning." (Source: The Intercept)

Sunday 5/17/18 -  Trump accuses the New York Times of making up a source even though the source was a White House staffer giving the press a briefing. (Source: Washington Post)

Trump Log #44: Happy Anniversary to the Probe

The Mueller probe enters its second year this week. Trump and his boot licking pals at Fox "News" have been calling it a witch hunt. So far, Mueller has handed out 23 indictments in one year. Let's compare it to the Benghazi investigation. The Benghazi investigation went on for four years, how many indictments?  ZERO.  They found nothing. No evidence of wrong doing was found after $7 million of tax payer money spent and 33 separate hearings. This investigation was longer than the 911 commission, longer than the Watergate investigations and the investigation after Pearl Harbor. For future reference, when you are wondering what a witch hunt looks like, think Benghazi.

If Hillary Clinton is a criminal, then she is a mastermind like this planet has never seen. Investigated more than anyone and still no jail time ... Benghazi, Whitewater, "her emails," the Cattle Futures controversy and the Clinton Foundation controversy. She's more powerful than Thanos and Magneto combined.

Trump Log:

Monday 5/14/18 - On his first in office, Trump/s EPA director Pruitt, request 24/7 security protection costing tax payers millions. (Source: Washington Post)

Tuesday 5/15/18 - If any of you have dreamed of peace in the Middle East in your lifetime, you can completely forget about it now.  Trump has moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem and the Palestinians are angrier than ever. (Source: New York Times)

Wedneday 5/16/18 - North Korea backs out of peace talks for a variety of reasons. But one of them certainly is John Bolton, Trump's National Security Advisor, touting the "Libya model" for North Korea. In 2003/2004, the US and others negotiated disarmament with Libya. A few years after they denuclearized, Gaddafi was killed and dragged through the streets. Gee, why would that scare Kim Jong-un! (Source:Washington Post)

Thursday 5/17/18 - Trump refers to immigrants as "animals" on Twitter. Does he have any understanding of history? Dehumanizing of others leads to nothing good.  (Source: Washington Post)

Friday 5/18/18 - Under a new Trump administration rule, no healthcare facility that provide abortions or refers patient to a clinic for abortion, could lose all federal funding. (Source: New York Times).

Saturday 5/19/18 - Trump's addiction to Fox News (aka Faux News) could be getting dangerous. (Source: Washington Post)

Sunday 5/20/18 - The Trump team not only met with Russians to assist with the election, but they met with Middle Eastern operatives as well. It is illegal for any foreign organization or individual to be involved in an American election.  (Source: New York Times)

Trump Log #43: You Can't Make This Shit Up

On the same day that Melania announces her "Be Best" program that among other things concentrates on children's health, her husband asks Congress for a massive cut in CHIP, the Children's Health Insurance Program.  You can't make this shit up. The CHIP program has existed since the 1990's and has been nothing but a success. Even if you look at from only a fiscal side, by getting to health problems early, we save lots of money. Even if it weren't fiscally sound, isn't children's health worth throwing money at. What are our values?

Reading this week's Trump logs and Trump logs from the past, our values clearly do not include children's health ... in any way, shape or form.

Trump Log
Monday 5/7/18 - Trump's AG, Jeff Sessions, states that he will prosecute all illegal border crossers and separate them from their children. (Source: Washington Post)

Tuesday 5/8/18 - Trump didn't have the votes to repeal Obamacare (thank you John McCain). Now Trump and his GOP minions are trying to destroy it from within. (Source: New York Times)

Wednesday 5/9/18 - Trump asks Congress for $15 billion cut to budget which includes $7 billion from the Children Health Insurance Program. (Source: Bloomberg)

Thursday 5/10/18 - Since the A Team (and the B through D team) don't want to work for Trump and his clown posse, we are stuck with a bunch of incompetent low lifes on the highest levels of government. A perfect example is his new Ambassador to Germany.  The first thing he did was send out a Tweet that pissed off his host country.  (Source: TheIntercept)

Friday 5/11/18 - Trump's pulling out of the Iran deal could lead to an all-out war between Iran and Israel, not just a cold war. (Source: Washington Post and New York Times)

Saturday 5/12/18 - Trump's trade policy has a potential to hurt the American automobile business very badly by causing prices to increase, decreasing sales and cutting the US off from the Chinese market.  (Source: New York Times)

Sunday 5/13/18 - Trump's Education Department has stopped investigating corruption at for-profit colleges.  (Source: New York Times)

Trump Log #42: The Government We Deserve

Americans made their decision, they have made it clear what their values are. We are not the shining city on a hill, but more like a bivouac in an alley. We are high on concept but poor on execution. We like to think of ourselves as the cradle of freedom provided that this freedom doesn't inconvenience us in anyway, doesn't upset our privilege even mildly and doesn't interrupt our football games. This is the first presidency I have lived through that seems to be wrong on everything. Wrong on the environment, wrong on trade, wrong on human right, wrong on immigration, wrong on education. Nothing is right about him, yet he maintains a consistent group of followers that still approve of him. This is shameful. I don't blame him. There will always be disgusting people like Trump in the world. I blame the system that rewards him, I blame the people who support him and those who voted for him, even though he does nothing to advance their cause or improve their lives. Ultimately, we get the government we deserve ... and it appears, we don't deserve much.

Trump Log:
Monday 4/30/18 - Our President was offended by the Michelle Wolf's stand up at the Correspondence Dinner. In the past, he has referred to woman as "bimbos" and worse. He has also called our last President some pretty nasty names. He doesn't seem to be able to take it, but can give it just fine. (Source: Washington Post)

Tuesday 5/1/18 - In Trump's trade wars, there are mostly losers. But there may be one big winner, not the US, but China.  (Source: New York Times)

Wednesday 5/2/18 - Since taking office, Trump has made over 3,000 false or misleading comments.  That is an average of 6.5 a day, up from 4.9 from early in his presidency. (Source: Washington Post)

Thursday 5/3/18 - Rudy Giuliani, new to Trump's legal team, confirms that Trump may have broken campaign finance laws when Trump's lawyer paid to quiet Stormy Daniels during the elections. The amount exceeded the required amount that you have to be report.  (Source: Slate)

Friday 5/4/18 - Giuliani has also publicly stated that Trump fired ex-FBI Director, Comey, for completely different reasons than was indicated by Trump himself.  Oops! (Source: Washington Post)

Saturday 5/5/18 - Tens of thousands of Hondurans, some of whom have lived here for two decades, have to start making preparations to return. It doesn't matter if they have no place to go or if they have established businesses here etc. (Source: New York Times)

Sunday 5/6/18 - Trump angers two of our greatest allies during an NRA speech. (Source: CNN)
