Trump Log #45: Critical Mass

If you repeat something enough, eventually people, who aren't paying that much attention, will accept it as truth. Our president is a master at this. Hillary Clinton is the most investigated person in history and has been found guilty of nothing, yet after he called her "crooked Hillary" a few thousands times, he is able to get an auditorium full of ill-informed morons and malcontents to chant "lock her up." This kind of stuff is scary to watch. You can understand the Third Reich a little bit more after 2016 campaign, how it took power and got some otherwise decent people to do some pretty horrendous things.

This is concerning when you think about how long the Mueller probe is going on. The longer it takes to wrap up, the longer he has to bash it and throw doubt of its validity into the minds of those not paying attention.  I am not too concerned about his followers, they aren't going to be swayed by anything or anyone. I believe the president when he says that he could shoot someone and he wouldn't lose any votes. After what I've seen this year, I believe him.  My concern are those that aren't his fans but that don't pay close attention. How many sound bytes do they have to hear of Trump bashing Mueller before they think that Mueller is the problem and not Trump? Even a really bad idea or a lie can reach critical mass.

Trump Log:
Monday 5/21/18 - Trump demands that his Justice Department investigate whether Obama's justice department or the FBI infiltrated him campaign. This is unprecedented and could cause a big mess in the Justice Department.  (Source: New York Times)

Tuesday 5/22/18 - Torturers and despots around the world now use the US President's words as justification for their immoral acts. (Source: The Intercept)

Wednesday 5/23/18 - Trump's EPA director, Pruitt, bars the Associated Press and CNN from a conference on water contamination. (Source: AP News)

Thursday 5/24/18 - On the same day that the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported a new Ebola outbreak, Trump seeks to rescind funding for Ebola response. (Source: New York Times)

Friday 5/25/18 - Trump's form of negotiation doesn't work on the world stage, obvious as the North Korean summit crumbles. (Source: New York Times)

Saturday 5/26/18 - Trump cuts funds to women's health organizations in Uganda. His GGR (Global Gag Rule) goes much further than other GOP presidents in the past, because he is cutting all global health assistance "not just funds pegged specifically to reproductive health and family planning." (Source: The Intercept)

Sunday 5/17/18 -  Trump accuses the New York Times of making up a source even though the source was a White House staffer giving the press a briefing. (Source: Washington Post)

Yes, I think he was elected not by his base but by those who were not paying attention.
